This entry is part 170 of 342 in the series Belle's Box

Read about this series of posts, regarding items in a box originally owned by Belle (Lamunion) Fellows Tinker here. The cast of characters is located here. And, there is an accounting of people about whom I have little information here.

The numbering of these posts had been modified to signify that I am posting items from my archival book two, hence the 2-xx numbering. The posts from this book will contain more thumbnails, you will find that the pages with signatures, text and other important details will enlarge upon clicking.

Belle Tinker turned 81 years old on July 15, 1945. Her husband, Charlie Tinker died six months later, in January 1946.

On the 1930 Federal census of Troy Township, Oakland County, Michigan, district 63-129, sheet 17B on Rochester Road between 18 and 18 miles roads resided Marie and Earl T. Colbert. Also in the household was Yvonne Miller, Earl’s step-daughter. He was an “up-set operator, auto factory”. Papa just said, “Right now, there are a lot of upset operators in auto factories.”   Not funny, but true.

The location where this Earl and Marie lived is about 2 miles by the main roads from my current home. I don’t know if it is the Marie & Earl that sent the card to Belle, but maybe it is.

P.S.  A cousin wrote me,

“This is stretching my memory but as I recall there is a cobblestone house between where Belle Tinker lived and the Colfax Church.  In the 1950’s I believe there was a man by the name of Earl Colbert living in that house.  MiGenWeb, Wexford county has a Earl Colbert listed in the Memorial card section as having a date of death in 1954 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery.”

This adds a little to my growing list of things to do, when I find the time!

3-25-2009 – A transcription posted in the Michigan GenWeb archives for Fairveiw Cemetery, Manton, Michigan,  lists in section 2, lot 359:
Colbert, Earl T. 1892-1954
Colbert, Marie 1893-1960
Shannon, John M. 1/18/188?-11/27/1954 Penn PVT CO B 307 Engineers WW

The Earl T. Colbert who appeared on the census of Troy Township was born about 1892, in Pennsylvania. Earl must have made his way to Wexford County sometime after 1930, and before Belle passed away in 1948.
