Play Nice

Papa has a bad cold, figures. He felt a lot better this morning, but the didn’t sound better. I feel one coming on, and so does GS2. D1 went off to work complaining about a scratchy throat, so I guess we’ll all have some effects. It’s cold again, but the yard is still a little muddy. I want to pick up sticks and rake, it will have to wait till next week, I guess.

Papa went to the store for a minute last night, and D1 and D3 were playing the Wii when he got home. It started with, I wonder if two cows can race?, and ended with bowling. The cow racing was absolutely crazy. One brown cow, one white cow, may trees mowed over or jumped. The bowling game went better, and everyone is ready to go to the real alleys and see if what they have learned will pay off. Papa noted that my girls were playing together, and that doesn’t happen a lot. If all this keeps up Papa will have to watch the news laying on our bed on the other TV.

I picked up my van from the dealership and dropped of Papa’s car yesterday. The car was making a mystery noise when we drove Tuesday, and I don’t like mystery noises. We are driving that car to Kentucky next week, and I don’t want to listen to that noise all the way. Hope it will be back soon, because Papa has my car, and I’ll have to drive the van around today. That’s expensive.

The Fix-it Guy

We have a few repairs that need to be done on the exterior of our little home.  So we went to the home show, got the names of three contractors, and called them to come and give us quotes.  One never made the appointment.  One was twice as much as the third, and couldn’t seem to provide references, or answer questions.  So number 3,  got the business.

I called them the other day and tonight, their guy showed up to confirm what was to be done and get the deposit.  I don’t know much, but he was loud, louder than anyone I’ve ever met in person before.  He must have thought we were deaf.  But we could hear him fine, in fact, the “kids” said, he was loud.  Come to think of it, I wish all the doctors, clerks, waiters and waitresses and anyone else that has to help S-Dad with anything would talk that loud.  Maybe he could hear some of it.  Maybe.

Wii

So we went to Costco the other day, to get some weed and feed for the grass.  I try to go there as little as possible, there are too many “things” in that store.   Waiting for us right inside the door was this.  It jumped in the cart.  We started looking at new laptops, but (some) sanity prevailed. We escaped with just the fertilizer and a new toy.

I have a Mii, creatively named “Grandma”, which is ready to mingle with your Mii.  Just let me know if you want to mingle.

Off to the Library

So Papa has to go to a meeting tomorrow, and I’m riding along.  Mainly it’s to be sure we use the coupon we have for dinner at a place we sometimes stop.  I sure wish that we’d get coupons for local restaurants…  I guess I need to work harder on that.

The van has to go have new front airbag sensors installed.  Apparently the ones they installed when I had the problem with the airbag light staying on all the time might be bad.  I wonder how many times I’ll need to take the van back because of this?  Anyway, when Papa gets home we’re taking it.  Then, Stepdad will take me to get it back on Wednesday.  Or I could ride my bike up there, but I probably won’t.  I wish it would warm up enough to do that, though.

Dirty or Clean??

For some reason, the sun casts a different light in the spring. I can see cob webs, smudges, dust and other offensive things so much better in the spring. I want to clean everything, and NOW. It’s not happening, but I did do my usual Monday “stuff”. The house is vacuumed. The bed is changed. The clothes are washed. The floors are mopped. I actually felt so energetic that I brought up the carpet cleaner and cleaned the spots off the sofa and my chair. Now I get to listen to a fan all the rest of the day while I try to get my items dry. I often wonder if we’re really dirty, or really clean. Never have figured it out.

I have a ton of projects, but probably won’t get to all of them now, or even later. But, I keep trying. On thing for sure, I have to start on the flower girl dresses this week. I want to be able to fit them GD1 and GD2 at least once before I finish them, so that means having them around at the proper time. I have everything I need to make the dresses, I just need to put a couple leaves in the table and cut the darn things out. The sewing part is the easy part, at least for me. It will be Wednesday when I get to it, but Wednesday is better than not at all.

I probably also need to make a list. At least then I will be reminded of what to do.

A Little Warmer

It was nice yesterday, almost 40 degrees in the warm part of the day.  I vacuumed out Papa’s car and my little car.  I probably need to get out the carpet cleaner, but that will have to wait for much warmer weather.  Today, I vacuumed out the van.  It was a lot cleaner, we haven’t used it as much.  Papa took the cover off Lex this morning.  The cover itself is in shreds.  Absolute. Shreds.  We prepared it for sending out in the garbage.  We’ll have to have a new cover in the fall.

We had burgers off the grill for dinner last night.  That is a sure sign of spring.  I hope the warm-up continues.

Surprise

I was caught off-guard when my brother called last night, and was in town for work.  I actually have two brothers, but I rarely see either.  I’ll just call this one B1, since he was born first (after me).

So, I waited until his GPS brought him here to the house this morning, then I went to breakfast with him and Sdad.  It was a pleasant interlude.  Nice to see him, and hear that his son, my nephew is doing OK.  I actually have three nephews, B1’s son would actually be N2, born second of the three.  This is getting too complicated, even for someone who spends way too much time on genealogy.

The sun is shining.  The snow is melting.  The lot behind us has a LAKE in it, I think I’ll go swimming…

Spring is Coming

Here are our granddaughters at Mayfest last year.  Scroll down to the bottom.  The extra little girl, who has the braid, was camped near us.

WII!!!!!!!!!

S-in-L found a Wii under the tree this year. I never saw one before last Sunday, but had heard plenty. It was GD1 who asked her Dad to take it out so they could play. She played several games, like darts and a basketball shoot. The best part for her was selecting the clothing for her Mii. I could have guessed that, even without knowing the feature existed. Dressing herself, her bears, her dolls and other items is her big thing. She has her own style and knows what she wants.

Then, S-in-L loaded a bowling game. GD1 played it, and then Papa played it with her. Then, I got a turn. As far as I can tell, the game is a good representation of real life. The “ball” did exactly what I remember it doing when I used to hit the alleys regularly, years ago. I could actually hear my Mom’s voice in my head, “Reach for the pins, Pam. Roll it over the second dot. Don’t throw it, roll it.” And on and on. Bowling math was the only math I ever understood, and probably today, still is. a spare is 10 plus your score on the next ball. A strike is 10 plus the score on your next two balls… That darn video game was fun, and it kind of took me to another place.

In a past life, I used to play a lot of Frogger, I guess that was my favorite video game. The Wii is much better. For some reason, you feel more involved in the game as you play it. Papa, D2 and I speculated about what Papa’s Dad would have thought about it. We finally agreed he would like the Wii, after we remembered a trip to a casino of long ago. Grandpa sat at a nickel slot for ages, watching closely, and grinning his slow grin. I guess he enjoyed it a lot more than anyone trying to win a little money, and he made a dollar last forever.

I know my Mom would have loved the bowling game, even if the others were of no interest to her. She would have analyzed, tried to figure out how it worked, and generally drove us nuts as she tried to figure it out. She never could just enjoy something, she always had to figure it out.

That darn game was enough fun that Papa and I wasted a hour or so last night, Internet shopping, checking out what packages are available, and so on. There still seems to be an artificial shortage of the darn things, probably because everyone that sees one, wants it.
