Papa says these are WW1 uniforms. I don’t know the identity of these servicemen, nor their relationship to Belle.

Emily was Belle’s sister. Claude Carter had three wives, I do not know which one this might be. The wives were: Vera McKinley, Genevieve  Charles and Bessie Caulkins.

If you can identify the wife, or the other unknown people, please contact me.

I am fascinated by this photo, which shoes three women in interesting outfits. Papa says that is no ordinary wagon. I see buckets, and wonder if the ladies were going to pick berries.

3-79

Please take the time to enlarge this one and check out the haystacks in the field. Also quite interesting, the outfit worn by the woman on the left.

Looks like a split skirt of sorts to me. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one in such an early photo.

Here is a photo of a bridge. There is no writing on the back.

You can see that I have not done any restoration to this photo, as is true for many of the pictures in the collection.

claude carter and wife copy

My mother-in-law believes this is a photo of Claude Carter, 1895-1967. Claude was the son of Emily Lamunion and her husband Andrew Carter. Claude was Belle’s nephew.

Claude had three wives, Vera McKinley 1893-1929, Genevieve Charles ca 1895-, and Bessie Caulkins 1892-1980. This is most likely Bessie.

If you are a researcher or descendent of the Carter family, and can confirm the subjects of this photo, please contact me.

Here is a photo of a nice man feeding a wild bird. I don’t know what bird it is, and I don’t know what man it is.

So, I really don’t know much.

There is no identification on this carte-de-visite except the name of the photographer.

Belle’s parents were Miranda Jones and Ruscum Lamunion. The Lamunion/Lemunion/Lemunyon family came to Michigan from New York as did the Jones family. The earliest record I have found for the Ruscum Lamunion family in Michigan is the 1870 census of Dorr Township, Allegan County. The latest New York record is the 1965 census of Manchester, Ontario County. The last New York record I have for Robert Jones, Miranda’s father is the 1860 census of MacEdon, Wayne County, New York. MacEdon is just west of Palmyra.

In my day dreams, I imagine that this is a photo of Belle’s mother, Miranda Jones Lamunion, in my nightmares, I don’t know who the nice lady is.

If you have a connection to the family of Robert Jones, or any of his children, please review your photographs and check for a matching one. Of course, in my day dreams your photo is marked with the name of the subject.

More on the Jones Family:

Robert Jones, b about 1796 in Massachusetts, married Savilla. He may have had a previous wife. I know of these children of Robert, the 26 years from the first know child to the last know child makes a second wife seem likely. There are probably more children, also.

Miranda/Maranda, female b. 26 January 1821, NY
Hezekiah, male, b about 1825, NY
Robert V. Jones, male, b May 1836, NY
Benjamin F. Jones, male, b about 1839, NY
George Jones, male, b about 1847, NY

A little cruise through the family tree has given me the opportunity to make an educated guess about the identity of this couple. The family of Belle’s sister, Mary Ann Lamunion, very frequently corresponded with Belle.

Etta May Murray, Mary Ann’s daughter married twice, in 1919 to Fred Puff, who died in October, 1910. On 25 March 1924, in White Cloud, Newaygo County, Michigan, Etta Puff, age 41, married Henry T. Shick, age 35.

Etta’s son, William T. Puff send his aunt Belle several cards from this collection.

Comparing the handwriting on the cards has convinced me that William Also wrote the caption on the reverse of this photo. Thus, this is his mother Etta May Murray Puff Shick and her husband Harry T. Shick.

You can view the other cards with William’s handwriting, and see if you think I am correct:

Item 3-7, especially notice the “F” and “M” on this one.

Item 2-91, same thing, “F” and “M” look like the ones on the photo.

Item 2-20.
