I Just Have to Tell You

Troy Colts, 34

Warren Cousino, 0

The Big One

GS2’s team, the Troy Colts, play a regional football game tonight.  He won’t be able to play anymore this year, but we’re going anyway.  We’ve watched those kids play since they were 8 and we’re not quitting now.

A good thread that I sometimes see on a discussion list is, “What’s in your CD player?” or “What are you listening to?”.  I’m reorganizing my links and adding that.  Might be fun, might go stale like a lot of things, we’ll see.

Root for the Colts tonight!

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my much younger sister today, you know who you are!

Updating

Yesterday’s e-mail brought the unwelcome news that another of the scripts I run on some of my sites needs upgrading. I hate the process, even though it’s pretty simple. Don’t get me wrong, I love that people actually write scripts that can be used with a donation or without a charge. I really would rather upgrade than run a script that could be hacked.

I dislike updating because once I did something wrong and lost all the data in that application, a photo album. I had to reload all the photos, and I never did go back and add the captions I lost. I’m very careful, I follow the instructions, and I haven’t had a disaster in a couple of years. But, I’m still nervous every time I do this.

Two down, one to go.

Monday, Monday

What a weekend.  D2 arrived on Friday night with GS3, and GD’s 1 and 2.  We had a nice evening, and everyone but GD3 went to bed early.  We could here her from our bedroom, “Wake up sister! Let’s have a tea party.  Want to have cucumber sandwiches? Let’s stay up all night!”.  I guess she finally did go to sleep, she was asleep when I got up.

Saturday was the big game between GS2’s team, the Troy Colts, and Southfield Lathrup.  We are sad that GS2 was injured in practice and can’t play, but happy that he will heal fine, and be able to play next year.

It turned out to be a great day for Troy, it was sunny, the stands were full, the crowd was excited, and the game was won.  Papa’s pictures are here.  A district title for a high school team is quite an accomplishment.  We’ll be at Friday’s regional game at Warren Cousino, wish us luck!

Saturday morning before the game, I made GD2 a couple of pink nightgowns.  You really have to understand the background to get it.  She has a pink nightgown, which I made for Christmas a couple of years ago, but it isn’t pink anymore, having been washed a million or so times.  I just pulled out the pink flannel, cut out 2 easy nightgowns, and sewed, ignoring all else for a couple of hours.  She was so happy it was almost impossible to remove the nightgown to go to the game.

D2 drove home Saturday evening.  GD2 was pitching a fit when everything was finally loaded.  Since D2 had to gas up the van, so I jumped in to stay near the children while the gas was obtained and paid for.  When D2 emerged from the station, I just walked the block home to our house.  D2 called tonight to let me know that about halfway home, GD2 suddenly said, “We left grandma at the gas station!”.  That sure came out of left field, over an hour after the event.  Funny girl.

The Lions won.  No one around here know quite what to think., since it’s been a while since the Lions had any kind of season.

So, back to the grind, and perhaps my energy will continue and I can get a little more done.

Reorganizing My World

Something happened to me in the past year, and my live has changed more that I imagined.  GS1 left for the navy,   my mother began her more rapid decline and died, then S-in-L’s mother left us.  I look in the mirror and see the same person, but inside, i’m not the same, or I didn’t seem to be.

This past month, something snapped, and I became a little more like myself.  I regained some energy and began to reorganize my life, starting with the physical space.  I moved all the living room furniture, then the dining room.  I changed the “back room”, got some shelves and organized the contents.  I cleaned the kitchen, and the bedroom.  I bought a new desk for my computer and I’m getting ready to get the old one out of here, one way or another.

I’m thinking of a couple of genealogy research trips, I’m thinking about Christmas get-togethers, I’m sleeping a little better and finding I have the will to attack life again.  I’m acting, instead of reacting.  That’s more my style, and I do feel better these days.  Now, about that desk.  Time to remove it–

Birthday!

Did I say that today is D2’s birthday?  She arrived in a hurry, I can almost feel Papa driving, way too fast, into town to the hospital.  We made it, but not by much.

As Usual

As usual, I have plenty I could complain about, and then I saw this on Sista’s blog.  I’ve got nothing to say now, except please pray for everyone in danger.

Nice Weekend

We left Saturday morning, and drove to Fremont, Michigan.  Oh, wait, not before we went to the estate sale next door.  I didn’t think I could bear to do it, and when we were ready to leave, I didn’t think I could stand not to.  So we went.  These things remind me of a song Bo Kazy used to sing when he lived around here,  ‘Yard Sale”:

…Well, I wonder what you’d say if you could see The way they’re sortin’ through what’s left of you and me

— The writers of that tear-jerker:  Dewayne Blackwell and Larry Bastian

So, we ran through the sale, and I didn’t cry, but I did today.  We were looking at some old 78’s and the second one I picked up was a King record, “Using my bible for a roadmap”, Reno and Smiley.  We bought the whole pile, and really, looking at it today, the one would have been enough.  That was the lone, old early bluegrass disc in the bunch.  The rest are big band, dance and square dance tunes.  But the problem is, even though I have the record, and even though I went to the funeral, and even though I know time passes, I can’t have the past back, and I don’t like that today.

We were almost late the the benefit show we attended all day Saturday.  We had a fine time, saw some great music, and stayed near Muskegon that night.  On Sunday, we drove around and around, finally stopping at an antique shop on the north side of Lansing.  I bought 1 item for $2, so I was a cheap date.  We ate lunch, and were home late.

GS2 went out to a meeting of sorts, to watch his team’s first playoff opponent is.  There was a kind of cute selection show on the TV, and all the teams and match-ups were announced.  It was interesting to hear the sportscasters  mispronounce the names of so many cities and towns.  I mean, really, how can you goof up “Huron” ?  Anyway, it’s Detroit Henry Ford.  I’ve never seen that team play, so it’s all new.  A home game, so at least I know where to go.

I put away the stuff from the car, started cleaning, and some friends rang the door bell.  So now, today, I want to finish the vacuuming and one attachment (the one I need) for the vacuum is missing.  Not a good Monday.  I’m sure I’ll find it by tomorrow…..

Pickin’ on CF

If you are reading this, do me a favor.  Go to this benefit show Saturday.  Papa and I will be there, you’ll know us by the camera in his hands.  Meet some new friends, see some good music, have a little fun, and support a worthy cause.  BE THERE!
