Christmas

[written across the top of the card]
form William Puff

William Puff, who was a grand-nephew of the Lamunion siblings, George and Belle, must have written this card when he was quite young. I am more confident that this card was penned on December 21, than I am that the year was 1919, you can review a card he sent in 1912, and see that he was much younger when he wrote this one.

William H. Puff, about 1910-?; was a son of Etta May Murray, 1883-1964 and Fred Puff, 1884-1910. His mother, Etta, was one of six children of Mary Ann Lamunion, 1850-1899; and her husband John H. Murray, ca 1847-1922. Mary Ann a sister of George and Belle.

wrote you. I hope you are better.
Ina hasn’t been well lately.
Etta is working at the Hotel here
at present, William is going to
school. He is at the Basket ball
to-night. Let us know how you
are, if it isn’t more than a card.
Hope to hear you are all well.
Remember us to the girls.

Your niece
Eliza

Eliza Murray mentions her sisters Ina and Etta in this card; they were all nieces of Belle, daughters of Belle’s sister Mary Ann Lamunion and husband John H. Murray. The William she refers to is probably William “Will” Puff, a son of Etta Murray and husband Fred Puff. Fred died in 1910; Etta must have been living near or with her family. Eliza, Ina and Etta all lived into the 1960′s.

J H Murray & family

John H. Murray was the husband of Belle’s sister, Mary Ann Lamunion/Lamunyon. Marry Ann died in 1899, according to a transcription from a family bible. Apparently the Lamunions didn’t have a lot to do with John Henry Murray after her death, or perhaps he believed they didn’t . Murray died in 1922, leaving three daughters. I’m not sure what happened to the couple’s first born son, William H. Murray, 1875-?. In this communication, John referred to two of Belle’s sisters, Elizabeth “Lib”, and Emily.

There are many cards in the Belle’s collection from the Murray daughters, Etta, Ina and Eliza, and some from Fred Puff, a son of Eliza.

This entry is part 5 of 342 in the series Belle's Box

You can read about Belle Lamunion, 1864-1848, and her amazing box of family memories here. Belle married Henry H Fellows, 1858-1905 in 1879 in Ashland Township, Newaygo County, Michigan.

This series of posts will center around the approximately 405 items in the box which are in my possession. I scanned the items one at at time as they were picked up from the box, in no particular order; and so the scans are not arranged by date or any other method. The posts will be numbered according to the order of the scanned item in my files. It may be that the posts will not appear in number order, especially if extra investigation is needed regarding a given item. So, just to be clear, the cards, clippings, photos and other items that were in the box will be described one at a time, and titled with the file number of the item’s scan.

You can read about the characters whose names appear in the box in Cast of Characters . If you are related to this family, please contact me.

The Christmas card is addressed to Belle Fellows, Manton, Mich; and postmarked December 24, 1912. I can’t make out city from which it was mailed. William H. Puff, about 1910-?; was a son of Etta May Murray, 1883-1964 and Fred Puff, 1884-1910. His mother, Etta, was one of six children of Mary Ann Lamunion, 1850-1899; and her husband John H. Murray, ca 1847-1922. Mary Ann was Belle’s sister.
