This entry is part 57 of 60 in the series Cemeteries

This cemetery is just west of US 131, about 2 20 miles south of Kalkaska. Walton Junction is a ghost town, little remains of the once thriving logging community. I consulted a book of cemetery transcriptions at the library in Kalkaska, which listed lot

A lot was listed on the index as that of containing burials for Zachariah C. Smith and his wife Harriet Filson Smith. No stones visible, but this planter on the lot.

Lot 3 was indexed as containing burials for several Smith family members, including Zachariah C. Smith and his wife Harriet Filson Smith. No stones visible, but this planter on the lot. Zachariah and Harriet were the parents of Hiram Smith.

This entry is part 322 of 342 in the series Belle's Box

Read about this series of posts, regarding items in a box originally owned by Belle (Lamunion) Fellows Tinker here. The cast of characters is located here. And, there is an accounting of people about whom I have little information here.

The numbering of these posts had been modified to signify that I am posting items from my archival book three, a three precedes the item number.

3-62 is a photo of Henry Smith, son of Eunice Fellows and husband Hiram Smith.

3-62

3-106 is badly faded, but is unmistakably of Henry Smith.

3-106

3-104 is a four generation photo. Belle’s daughter, Eunice Fellows Smith, and her son Henry are standing.
Belle is holding a baby. Charlie Tinker can be seen sitting on the ground to the right.

3-104

Henry Z. Smith, 1918-1986 married Esther M. Marquart. Their first child, David Henry Smith was born in 1946 and passed away in 1983. I believe, but am not completely certain, that David is the baby Belle is holding.

With Love to [Grand] Mother
on her day

2-14a

2-14b

[To a loving sweet Mother and Grandmother.]

Here’s a happy greeting, [Grand-] Mother
And an extra word of cheer,
For the home
you’ve made so happy,
And toe home-ties
kept so dear!

Your loving grandchildren
Henry & Esther

There are quite a number of communications from Henry Z. Smith to his grandmother in the collection.  This one was apparently written after Henry’s marriage to Esther.  Esther Marquart Smith was a wonderful, loving lady and it does not surprise that if she was the writer, that she took the time to personalize this card and send a message.
