Paul, Barbara and boys

Barbara L Plotts, 1920-1998, was the daughter of Laila M. Carter and her husband Warren Burke Plotts. Barbara was a grand-niece of Belle, grandchild of Belle’s sister, Emily Lamunion Carter.

I know of seven children born to Barbara and Paul; the first four were boys born between 1938 and 1945. This card could have been send anytime after the second boy made the family plural in 1940, and before Belle’s death in 1948.

This card has been separated from a graduation invitation and photograph, by my original handling and numbering of the items in the box. Maxine Huldah Carter was granddaughter of Emily Lamunion Carter and husband Andrew. She was Belle’s grand niece.

Maxine is shown on the 1930 US Federal census, roll T626_1014 in Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan, enumeration district 61-32 sheet 5B, in the home of her parents, Ferris C. and Goldia Willbrandt Carter.

Greetings for Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

The Ferris Carter’s

Ferris Coulton Carter, 1897-1975, a nephew of Belle, was the son of Andrew Jackson Carter and his wife, Emily Lamunion. Emily was Belle’s sister. Ferris married, in 1922, Goldia H. Willbrandt, 1902-1945. I cannot date this card.

I thought it was interesting to see spring like birds on the card, rather than a typical Christmas scene.

The window of this card actually opens to show the angel.

2-9b

The signature on the card, is Claude Bessie & girls

Claude C. Carter was a nephew of Belle, the son of Emily “Em” Lamunion and her husband, Andrew J. Carter. His third wife was Bessie Caulkins Petersen, and this card appears to be from that couple. I don’t know any more about this family.

The most interesting thing about this Christmas card, is the misspelling of Laila Carter Plotts’s first name. Later in the collection there is at least one more identical card from Burke and Laila Plotts. Laila was Belle’s niece, the daughter of Emily “Em” Lamunion and her husband Andrew Jackson Carter. Click the thumbnail to see the misspelling.

Hulda

Huldah Aurilla Carter, the daughter of Andrew J. Carter and Emily Lamunion was probably the sender of this card. According to an extensive article about the Carter family in a local history book, Huldah boarded with a family member and attend Casnovia High School. Casnovia is located in close proximity to Ashland Township, where the Carter’s lived.
