On 1 December 2009, OCGS will hold the organization's regular meeting. The topic will be, “Placing your Ancestors in Historical Context: The Civil War”. Carolyn Lucado Griffin, teacher, author and longtime active member of the Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County Michigan, will discuss how focusing on a major historical event in your ancestor's life can make your genealogy come to life. Gathering records, using social histories, creating chronologies, and then writing about your ancestor will be explained.
Remember to bring an item for show and tell.
The Oakland County Genealogical Society meets at 7:00 p.m. monthly from October through June on the first Tuesday (except January) at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5500 North Adams (between Long Lake and Square Lake roads), Troy. The Church has a flat entrance and ample lighted parking.
Please mark you calendar for our January Joint meeting with the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research, which will be held on Saturday, 9 January 2010. That meeting is at 2:00 p.m., with visiting and refreshments at 1:30 p.m., at Christ Church Cranbrook, 470 Church St. (at Lone Pine Road), Bloomfield Hills.
